Arsenal Surpass Benfica as Football Club with the most Members
By: Bob | February 9th, 2007
That didn’t take long. Just a few months after Benfica laid claim to being the football club with the most members in the world, Arsenal have passed them by. The English Premier League club claims to having 175,000 members – 14,000 more than Benfica. The folks at the Guinness Book of World Records should get busy reprinting the latest edition.
Speaking of Arsenal, those rumors about the Colorado Rapids of the MLS changing their name to Arsenal Colorado appear to be true. A press conference has been scheduled later today to make the big announcement. The details of the partnership are still not entirely clear, but I find it interesting that the British media are talking it to mean that another American billionaire investing in a Premiership team. We’ll have to wait and see if that is the truth or whether it is more like the partnership between Real Salt Lake and Real Madrid where the two clubs very loosely work together.
Assuming I don’t die from the bubonic plague that has kicked my ass all week, I’ll post more about this once the press conference is over.
