Barcelona Explodes, Titi Gets a Header, and Ray Hudson Offers Pearls of Wisdom
By: Laurie | January 17th, 2009So today I get the following email from my co-blogger Chris:
Weekend Post
Barca are now the best team ever through half a season in La Liga. 50 of a potential 57 points. Quite the feat.
Also, Titi scored a header, which is probably worth an entire post in itself. (The Alves cross on that goal was to die for.)
As a Thierry Henry fan, I found that kind of insulting. I mean, I clearly remember him getting a header for France during the Greece friendly in November, 2006. But just in case you don’t remember that one, here is today’s (at the top). It’s a cracker.
I caught the last twenty minutes of today’s game — Barcelona vs. Deportivo la Coruna. Result: Barca, 5-0. Messi-Henry-Eto’o-Henry-Eto’o. And Deportivo la Coruna is not a bad club. It’s just that Barca are that incredible this year. It’s as if there’s only one team on the field, and everybody else is just cones to be run around on the way to goal. Their goal differential for the first half of the season is an amazing +46. Seriously.
The best part of watching the game today for me was seeing some of the Deportivo players, who had just gotten slaughtered, joyously swapping shirts with the Barcelona guys afterwards. I think I saw some serious idol-worship. (Was that Julian de Guzman who swapped with Eto’o? Adorable.)
Also, I was watching the stream in Arabic, so I missed the Hudsonisms. That doesn’t mean you need to. From Chris. (The gist, not verbatim):
[2:03:16 PM] Laurie says: Do you have a source for “best La Liga start ever”?
[2:03:27 PM] Chris says: Ray Hudson. Like 247 times.
[2:03:39 PM] Laurie says: That’s going in the post.
[2:05:06 PM] Chris says: Best back and forth between Ray’s yin and his yang.
Beginning of the game “The greatest player on earth, Lionel Messi”.
About 20 mins later: “This boy [Dani Alves] might be the best player on Barcelona.”
Not sure if he’s saying Barcelona are not of this earth or what.
