Battle of the Sugar Daddies: Man City Takes Out Chelsea, 2-1
By: Laurie | December 5th, 2009
Carlos Tevez goal
Not sure which is the bigger news: That Man City has beaten league leaders Chelsea, or that City did not get a draw.
(Or maybe it’s that money does talk? Or that Carlos Tevez has an odd-yet-effective side-footed free kick technique, shown above? Or that Emmanuel Adebayor is effective in the box? Even when it’s his own?)
Whatever. In the battle of the deep-pocketed Russian oligarch vs. the deep-pocketed UAE sheikh, the sheikh wins. City survives an early Adebayor own-goal (below) and a late Frank Lampard penalty attempt to break a seven-match draw streak.
And Manchester United sends their thanks, since this game combined with United’s 4-0 thrashing of West Ham moves the other Manchester club within two points of the top. In fact, Sir Alex is probably preparing a candy-gram for City goalkeeper Shay Given as we speak.
Adebayor own goal

Announcing quote of the day:
“He’s had more passes than some of his midfielders today, hasn’t he, Petr Cech?”
– announcer
Not the best of outings for Ancelotti’s men.
Comment of the day, from our Chelsea blog:

cornercornerFunny comment from the announcer, re: Adebayor: “He must realize that he’s running offside.”
He must not have watched Arsenal play the last 3 seasons. Not only does Adebayor not realize he’s running offside, he doesn’t know that there is an offside rule, or who that dude is that stands on the sideline with the flag.
Bizarre quote of the day comes from the Wikipedia entry for Man City owner Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan:
Sheikh Mansour has a deep love of sport that contain men only.
Umm…right, then. I think this was more than we needed to know. Moving on.
