Bobo Goes To Brazil.
By: chris | April 24th, 2009
Bobo Vieri quite sadly spent most of last year with a fork sticking out of his back. So after being quickly ushered out of Firenze, he was, of course, snapped up by another half-decent Serie A team. After two-thirds of a season of non-productivity, he and Atalanta parted ways.
And now he’s looking for a job. So where would you expect a completely cooked Italian former superstar to go? Qatar? MLS? Back to Australia. Serie C1? Sure. But it’s none of those. Bobo’s going to Brazil – which, incidentally, will be the name of his first Sao Paolo-set adult film.
Little is known about this potential move other than it being 90%. No team as of yet and no idea whether they’ve actually seen Bobo play in the last 18 months.
“There is a 90 percent chance of seeing Vieri play in Brazil. What he wants to do is play, and he is delighted with this chance.”
I’ll go ahead and predict Bobo teams back up with his old Inter strike partner at Corinthians. And then I’ll predict he’s duped by the very same transvestite prostitute. And then they’ll both get injured. Again.
So while we wait for the next ride on the Bobo-go-round, let’s ponder some of the stranger moves when the sun is setting on a career.
Robbie Fowler to North Queensland Fury (Australia): I say this is strange yet I have no idea as to the current state of the Australian real estate market.
Becks to LA Galaxy (MLS): The move wasn’t as strange as the timing, as Becks clearly still had plenty in the old legs. And, of course, it turned out the epic disaster most predicted, with David doing his best to wrangle out of the contract.
Gabriel Batistuta to Al-Arabi (Qatar): Many an athlete have moved abroad for the giant paycheck and part-time employment in the Middle East, but Batigol never seemed the money chaser, making this a headscratcher.
Luis Figo to Al Ittihad (Saudi Arabia) to Inter Milan to Al Ittihad to Inter Milan: For all we know, Figo may actually still be under contract in Saudi Arabia. Luis never actually went to the oil fields, but he’d agreed the move (something he has shown a tendency to do) and there was a great deal of confusion at the time just what had actually transpired. Whatever the case, Figo’s career lineage (Barca, Real, Inter) wouldn’t seem to require any retirement fund padding.
Rivaldo to Bunyodkor (Uzbekistan): You’d think Rivaldo would’ve been fine enough with Qatar or Saudi Arabia in his late quest for a final paycheck, but after Samuel Eto’o came out and said Bunyodkor offered him a stupifying $25m for one year of Uzbek football, you’ve got to think Rivaldo may have made the smart move. Ditto for Zico.
Gazza to Gansu Tianma (China): I suppose when you’ve gone on trial with an MLS club and failed to earn a roster spot there’s only one place else to go: China. Still…
