Brazil Produces The Female Rory Delap

Well, Brazilian soil, American genes, as I found out when first watching this video. The patented American teenage accent/giggle will really throw you initially.

Leah - yes, she’s apparently gone all Brazilian with the one name thing, and don’t act like you wouldn’t - born in San Paolo to American parents (her father was raised in Brazil), brought in Illinois and now playing for the Brazilian U-20 NT. She’s also the female game’s answer to Rory Delap, who is better known by his alter ego, Superthrowinman. Leah probably couldn’t match him in the weight room, so she uses leverage to get an insane amount of air underneath the ball and turn every throw in near the box into a poor man’s corner. And hers has a cooler nickname, “The Mortal Somersault”.

So if you’re a footy loving parent and your kid sucks, perhaps all hope is not lost. You can do the overbearing parent thing with throw-ins, too, because they’re becoming just as valuable.

  Unlike Rory Delap, who can throw the ball standing upright and aim it at least somewhere, I still fail to see the usefulness of somersault throws (other than you know, the wow factor).

  I mean, you’re completely sacrificing accuracy, and just hoping the ball will reach a teammate’s head. Big whoop.

  That’s gotta be hell on your knees long-term. They didn’t show her doing anything else useful with the ball. Surely that’s not the only reason she’s in the team. A female Brazilian David Beckham?

  you bet she’s a star…she can launch that ball farther than anyone can. and she’s got her head on her shoulders…she puts all the credit toward God. her faith is first, soccer second. talk about a “real” star.
