Carlos Vela’s Moment of Magic

By: chris | November 11th, 2008

The kids are alright. The scoreboard will show the story to be Jay Simpson’s brace in just his senior team match, but grab yourself a fine wine, a comfortable chair, and select your favorite aria for the stereo before watching this one. 19 year old Carlos Vela’s magnificently magnificent lofted ball – either while or a split-second before being tackled – made the scoreline insurmountable at 3-0 for what was essentially Arsenal’s reserve team against Wigan’s senior XI. But to view this goal in the scope of the game would do it a great injustice, because this was a moment of brilliance. Stunningly simple yet simply stunning. One of the very moments which make the sport so special.

  • Pure magic. This kid's goals are always full of a magical quality. Wonder what was going through all the senior players' heads as they got up to applaud? I can't wait to see him play more for the senior team.
