Catania Fans in the Feel-Good Story of the Week
By: chris | October 12th, 2008
Violence is, unfortunately, a pretty common extracurricular activity at Italian football games. So when you hear that a group of visiting Chievo supporters were accosted by bad Catania apples and had the GPS stolen out of their car a couple weeks ago, it comes as no surprise. But what you don’t hear often is that other supporters, the majority of whom are good, have taken to righting the wrongs of their reluctant brethren, as a group of Catania supporters did for the lads who’d met a few of the unfavorable Elefanti tifosi.
Get ready to say “awwwww”…
Horrified by the incident, a Catania fan club based in Verona, the Old Elephants, organised a special event to apologise to the Chievo followers. They held a dinner based on typical Sicilian food and then presented them with a brand new sat-nav to replace the stolen item.“We wanted to firmly underline the difference between tifosi and non-tifosi,” said Old Elephants leader Nico Gravagna. “Explaining that the attack they were subjected to certainly had nothing to do with the colours of the Rossoblu supporters, but simply the usual bad lads who took advantage of the situation to commit a crime.”
All together now….awwwwww.
Hopefully the asses who took the GPS in the first place have heard this story - make sure to spread the story to your Italian friends so they do - and feel positively ashamed of their actions. No one, especially not fellow fans, should have to step in to fix their mistakes.
But we can surely say the world of calcio is better with The Old Elephants around. (Awwwww.)
