Celebrating Celtic Fan Attacks AC Milan Keeper Dida

By: Bob | October 3rd, 2007

It was a dramatic and crazy ending to the Celtic-AC Milan Champions League tilt on Wednesday night in Scotland. After Scot McDonald gave the home side the lead in the 90th minute, a Celtic fan ran onto the pitch and celebrated by giving Milan keeper Dida a little love tap as you can see in the blurry video above. You can also see that it took a few seconds for Dida to remember to flop to the ground and simulate death. He was eventually taken away on a stretcher. My money says he will live.

The incident could have severe repercussions for Celtic. UEFA is going to investigate and they now face the possibility of having the game’s outcome reversed or they might get docked points or they might get booted out of the competition. All this time we thought it would be one of his own fans that would attack him out of frustration, but alas Dida was done in by a Celtic fan who might have cost his team big time even if his slap wouldn’t have felled a three-year-old.

Oh yeah pdb. He sure cut him with a knife. Would that be the invisible handle he's gripping with his open palm?

I guess UEFA shouldn't talk about it as just a slap either having not punished Celtic and then suspending Dida for cheating...

Gotta love these goons who come on and make stupid comments like that, acting like they're shocked because they somehow contrived to figure Dida was stabbed in the neck, and everyone else saw what really happened. No blood came out (because Brazilian skin now works like an auto-band-aid), an ice pack was applied to his head (to a spot the fan's hand never reached) and yet a stabbing it was.

    Good Lord lol.

From the video, it looks like the fan cut Dida's neck with a knife. So why talk about it as if it was just a slap?
  • ben
Since when did hugs cause mortal wounds?

PS: Well done Dida's acting coach! The fall could've looked worse though. Work on that.
  • siggi
And they have banned the clip of the incident on youtube, hilarious.
  • glatisant
I’d think that any sane spectator would agree that the two parties rather disgraced themselves here, even if what transpired *was* comically sublime (or was it sublimely comedic?). That Americans specifically would disapprove is neither here nor there. I mean, football’s done pretty well for itself even without the almighty blessing of the U.S., no? Seems rather silly to rely on their moral approval as an incentive to tell you that fan aggression and blatant diving are bad for the game.

In addition to footballer of the year awards. We should have diver of the year. The sole purpose to embarrass the shit out of twats like Dida in front of the watching world. What a wanker
  • Dida's acting coach
He isa very good. He-a practisimo this move justa last week. Applauso, Applauso

"That is the main reason its popularity in the states is minimal. Most American’s will say they don’t score enough…but if u ask them what they think of soccer players, immediately they say they are pussies. Not because they aren’t great athletes, but because they fake injury’s to hurt the other team, which is a pussy move
    "

I'm not sure if this is true... Basketball players take dive's all of the time, and I think it is still a popular sport here.... I still think it is due to the low scores.. although most like to see no hitters in baseball.. It's confusing. :-)
  • Drabik
Still in training then obviously lol
  • Dida
I have been taking acting classes!!

Soccer is a fantastic sport one that every American kid grows up playing. Unfortunately faking injuries and taking dives in order to penalize the other team is common place at every level of the game. That is the main reason its popularity in the states is minimal. Most American's will say they don’t score enough...but if u ask them what they think of soccer players, immediately they say they are pussies. Not because they aren’t great athletes, but because they fake injury's to hurt the other team, which is a pussy move. Taking a dive to penalize the other team and having it actually work is ridiculous. Some would say acting is part of the game...well that’s a game no American wants to watch...a game where acting like a pussy is encouraged. If they changed the rules and said if u take a dive you’re banned for 5 games, the sport would change dramatically for the better. I think every soccer fan would agree, American or not, taking a dive is a pussy move...They should do something about it...Not to make popular in the states, but to make it a better sport.

I think it is ridiculous. They say keepers get too much protection. If an opposing player did that to Dida within the match and he chased and fell, he would be carded.

I'm glad celtic have given the fool a lifetime ban, but no action should be taken on celtic. Dida's fall should be looked at though.

. MILAN WON THE MATCH 7-0. STFU. dida would save every shot celtic took even if dida has no arms or legs and was blind. He will also take the ball out of the net in the return leg, dribble around the entire celtic team and score on them. Four times.

    FORZA IL MILAN! OLE!

    Leave me alone...

HO! DIDA! Next time ah'll slap yer coupon wi a wet kipper ye big hoor! Get over yersel, and GERRIT RIGHT UP YE!
  • Dida
Hey! Leave me alone! I was hit real hard by Scottish nut job. He had a pie in one hand and a deep fried pizza in the other, I think it was Irn Bru in his jacket pocket too! Celtic out, Milan A.C. through to final as compensation!

    FORZA!
  • :(
Total nonsense. They can't ban Celtic at any level. They should ban Dida istead for his simulation.
  • glatisant
    *commedia dell'arte*
    apologies for the misspelling...

"Right, because football's highest purpose in existence is to be justified to Americans."
    ---------------------
Personally, I think the only way Yanks would take football seriously is if they get a (male) superstar of their own and their men's national team wins something really major. Dida isn't nearly important enough to make the difference either way, but I may be wrong. ;)

Though unfortunately, it ain't just Americans who find this sort of thing deserving of derisive laughter. Commedia del arte, indeed.
  • Chris
I love Clarence Seedorf's reply to the tv reporter who asked how Dida was after the game, 'He's a little dizzy, but I think he'll be ok.'
  • roswitha
Right, because football's highest purpose in existence is to be justified to Americans.
  • TheDeadlyPretzel
Dida is such a tosser, i always hated AC Milan and Dida, and now this, lol... AC Milan and all Italian teams can go home already with their 11 defenders on the pitch at one time, play defense 99.9% of the time and bore the hell out of the spectators footballing style...
  • Lino
Shouldn't Dida be charged with bringing the game into disrepute or of trying to con the officials? What a tosser!
  • Geoff
We need to look up the word "attack" in the dictionary because this clearly wasnt one. It was more comical than anything. Attack, please...there are countries at war attacking each other. Lets not get carried away.
  • he barely touched him.. lol
  • This is a mess...
  • Ian
Dida was a joke. The club is responsible for the dangerous situation of having a fan on the pitch, and I think they should certainly be fined for that, but Dida trying to make it into a real incident, then getting stretchered off? Pathetic. Milan loses neutral fans with this sort of thing. I agree with JT - I wish Maldini would leave so that I could truly hate Milan. A small fine is all this warrants.
  • Sweet, sweet, sweet win.

    Also, nice try, Dida. Clown.
  • this is why its hard to defend football to my american friends..effin pathetic
  • mele419
For a second I thought something really bad had happened, like the fan had stabbed him or something, but then he sort of ran after him, and then flopped to the ground -_- Would have been more convincing if he had just flailed to the ground immidiately.
  • sofia
this is the stupidest thing i have ever seen in my life. dida should be ashamed of himself. this is the worst case of diving ever
  • UEFA have confirmed that they will launch an investigation and are waiting for the reports from referee and match delagate.
  • Zabel
Milan decided not to ask for the investigation.
I think if they did, they would investigate on Dida's late fall too. Probable outcome could have been Celtic losing points, and Dida getting banned.
  • JT
Ah, see traffic coming home from the pub and I get beat to the scoop! The best was the stretcher though. Milan were taking swan dives all nite, so no one was too surprised that Dida acted in this manner. Glad to see there is already support for inaction by UEFA!
  • Jan
I have a different view on the 'slap'. Looking at the video I think that the fan initially planned to hug Dida (sort of thanking him for the gifted win), but when he came close he overturned his initial impuls which ended in this sort of slap instead of the hug.

Now, I sincerely hope that the UEFA only hands Celtic some form of monetary punishment or anything. Overturning the result or a points deduction would be a tragic decision.
  • THAT FAN IS LUCKY DIDA DIDN'T MURDER HIM... I SUPPORT MILAN AND WOULD HATE FOR ANY ACTION TO BE TAKEN
  • Peter
That is pathetic on so many levels. Dida should be ashamed of his actions. The fan should be ashamed of such a weak punch. I hope the punishment isn't too severe.
  • Comically sublime. Galliani the Milan head honcho has said he will not appeal to UEFA or ake any action so that is one good news for Celtic.
