Champions League Group Play Previews
By: Bob | September 12th, 2006
Hooray. The Champions League group play kicks off today with some of the top clubs in Europe battling one another for all the fun, money and glory. We’re going to LiveBlog the Liverpool and PSV Eindhoven match today so please come stop by while it is taking place.
For those looking to watch that match or others online, you can head on over to the land of Chinese pirates and see what they are beaming to computers around the globe. We’ve also taken the time to search around for some previews of all of today’s matches. Happy viewing.
Group A
Barcelona vs. Sofia Levski
The upstarts from Bulgaria will have their hands full on the road but their coach says they’ll be gunning for three points. Good luck with that.
Chelsea vs. Werder Bremen
Jose Mourinho’s boys are saying all the right things for a change and are on guard for Werder Bremen’s attack
Group B
Bayern Munich vs. Spartak Moscow
The buzz is that Bayern Munich knows that their team is weak, but we’ll see how weak they really are playing a tricky, but not great, Russian team.
Sporting Lisbon vs. Inter Milan
Luis Figo heads home to take on his former club. Jose Mouinho has labeled Inter as one of the Champions League favorites. Adriano returns for this match. Not sure if that is a good thing.
Group C
Galatasaray vs. Bordeaux
The Turkish side is back in the Champions League after a three-year absence but they are off to a horrid start in their domestic league. Bordeaux is not a team to bet your life’s savings on.
PSV Eindhoven vs. Liverpool
Our featured LiveBlog match should be an interesting one considering Liverpool’s abysmal performance this weekend against Everton and PSV’s dangerous squad.
Group D
Olympiakos vs. Valencia
Valencia travel to a very difficult venue without many of their top players.
Roma vs. Shakhtar Donetsk
The Ukrainian team is a loveable underdog but they are going to have a difficult time playing in front of 70,000 moped-throwing fans in Rome.
