The 'home vs away' theory has always bugged me. Sure it's different playing at home to playing away but there is no way it's twice as difficult to score a goal at someone else's stadium.

When you said "goalkeeper assist" I was thinking more along the lines of - who was it? Andreas Isaksson for PSV against Ajax, I think.

Nice assist, to be sure, but a little less entertaining than I was expecting!

Whatever they're trying to do with this new format, I hope it works, and works quickly. The prospect of missing out on the likes of Celtic, Panathinaikos, Sporting etc. to get Debrecen and Maccabi Haifa in the group stages isn't very enticing, even if it does mean those clubs get more money to build their squads. If they don't start becoming legitimate contenders once the novelty wears off, I can't imagine anyone's going to be very happy about it - not even Platini.

Same story for the Celts the night before at fortress Parkhead. Very unlucky to get a recent finalist and by far and away the best team in this round after the performance in Moscow. When Mowbray has a full season under his belt they'll be back for another stab next season. The Champions League will miss Parkhead this season.
