Chelsea’s Peter Kenyon Prank Called by Steve Staunton Impersonator

By: Daryl | February 17th, 2009

There was a fantastic little wind up last week, when a prankster from Irish radio station FM104 called Chelsea Football Club to declare Steve Staunton’s interest in succeeding Big Phil Scolari.

If you’re not familiar with Staunton, he was the manager for Ireland’s less than successful Euro 20008 2008 qualifying campaign. In many ways, he’s the Irish answer to Steve McClaren, so I think it’s fair to say his application for the Chelsea job would be a little unrealistic.

But posing as an agent, FM104’s Terry managed to get on the phone with none other than Chelsea CEO Peter Kenyon, and discuss the terms of Staunton’s appointment. Audio of what happened after the jump…

There’s a bit of a long intro, but it’s definitely worth waiting to hear Kenyon patronize/tolerate “Staunton’s” request to discuss a salary. And fair play to Kenyon for not being a total sucker, and eventually figuring out what’s happening.

Do I get my own tracksuit? Classic.

And I love Kenyons near disgust when ‘Staunton’ mentions his previous salary. Hilarious.
