Chicago Shows that They’re a Best Buy

By: Laurie | January 16th, 2008

chicago-best-buy.jpgWhat do you think of Chicago’s new, sponsored jersey?

Is it just me, or does this shirt put the “tacky” in…well…tacky? They look like something you’d see on the guys on street corners who wear the sandwich boards. Come into our stores, and we’ll give you the best buy!

And here we have Blanco, who’s apparently the best of the best buys. Would Wanchope’s have said, “overpriced”?

(Seriously, this is Blanco, right? I honestly didn’t recognize him clean-shaven and smiling.)

(Thanks to The Other Football for the find.)

Looks like the $10 shirt you can buy at the sports store. well the plus for me is that i am a regular at BB, rewards zone and all. The down side is all the MLS sponsored jerseys besides LA’s look like a bad t-shirt billboard. I’d feel embarrassed to wear this yet i sport my AIG as if i own the company. Today is Novotel. Yesterday, Chaucer. Maybe MLS can go to sponsor patches instead.

MLS contracts are going straight down to Ligue 1 standards. Crappy sponsors all over the place.

Well, at least they didn’t slap the yellow logo on top of the red stripe. That would have been hideous. I think Best Buy would have fit better as a sponsor for the Crew.

haha majors LOLZ. I live in Chicago, and literally saw this exact picture in the newspaper this morning. thought it was hilarious, and Blanco’s thumbs up makes it even better. I feel like if they just had the best buy lettering in red it would have been better rather than having a big ol’ red box.

If I were a Chicago fan, I wouldn’t be laughing at $3-5m per year for at least the next 3 years.

Very true, Tavis. Profitability is nothing to sneeze at, and for better or worse, shirt sponsorships are an important way to get there.

I believe that when Salt Lake debuted their Xango kit a few years back they just slapped a white piece of cloth over it. I’m sure once the Fire take the field it’ll look a little more professional.

    Not a terrible choice, IMO.

Christian, you’re probably right. The Galaxy’s promo shirt looked like somebody slapped a bumper sticker on some guy’s chest. Much better now.

All I can say is, at least our sponsor is a real company…unlike…picking randomly…Herbalife. :)

anytime they get a sponsor on their jersey is great. who cares if its bestbuy, besides the galaxy have freaking herbalife, what kind of sponsor is that? in spain sevilla has 888dotcom, its a freaking gambling website. whoever doesnt like any sponsor on any jersey, keep doing what your doing by not buying the jersey.
