Chinese Soccer Officials: Don’t mention the prostitutes

Soccer players and prostitutes. They are like bread and butter. The most that ever comes from the long and glorious tradition of people who don’t need to pay for sex paying for sex usually is that their stories are in the tabloids and their poor manners and unusual preferences are ingrained in our minds. Rarely are they punished for their actions.
That isn’t the case in China where players are supposed to uphold a higher standard and where the mere act of talking about hookers will get you in trouble.
Two players were kicked off of China’s Olympic soccer team yesterday because they asked a military officer if he had hired prostitutes during their military training earlier this month. Three players have now been kicked off the team in less than a year.
Dai Lin, 20, and Jiang Chen, 21, were kicked out last night for their “improper questions” to an instructor about whether he had called for a prostitute service, an “extremely bad” act that seriously spoiled the squad’s image, Goalchina.net reported today.
The two asked the instructor if he “had called a miss (to serve him),” the report said. In China, “miss” is often used as a euphemism for prostitutes. The report didn’t say what lead to the curious question.
If you can’t ask a military man about prostitutes who can you ask? Well, most of the players in the English Premier League and the lower division team in Italy….
