Chris Coleman was a good lad for five whole months
By: Bob | November 12th, 2007Here is entry number 43,154 in the ever growing book of public figures who get caught telling a fib. When he showed up 90 minutes late for a press conference on Friday, Real Sociedad boss Chris Coleman blamed his tardiness on a washing machine that had flooded his home. Alas, the washing machine turned out to be innocent in the affair and it was Coleman who has earned the scarlet letter “I” for idiot.
After the Spanish tabloids revealed that Coleman was in fact spotted at a nightclub at 5am the night before the press conference in question, he was forced to come forward with an apology.
Last night, after his side’s 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo Coleman admitted: ” I was out until late in a place where I should not have been. The other day I gave you an excuse, above all to take the pressure off the club. Tomorrow I will talk with the president and I have already apologised to the players before the game. I have to ask for forgiveness from the fans and everybody connected with the club because there are no excuses. I have given ammunition for people to damage the club. It was a mistake.
“I have been at the club for just five months and it is the first time that something like this has happened.”
Five months without once staying out at a place where he should not have been until 5am and showing up late for a press conference. Coleman clearly is a martyr for his club.
