Classic Commercials: The Banned Pepsi Ad
By: Laurie | February 17th, 2008What, you think this is culturally insensitive?
(This shows up in multiple places on the web as “The Banned Pepsi Ad,” but I’m not finding a story about the supposed banning anywhere. Anybody?)

well, I’d assume the Chinese government would have banned it there imidiately. They don’t take kindly to…Well, to anything really.

I can confirm that this showed on TV and was never actually banned. I remember seeing it on a french channel a long while back.

Honestly, I really don’t see anything wrong with the ad… it’s actually pretty fun, and not disrespectful to anyone.

Yeah, crazy Chinese government aside, I really don’t think this is terribly offensive to anyone. I doubt anyone takes it seriously enough to be mad.

Trust me, I’m as culturally open-minded as can be, and that commercial is fine by my standards. He’s not belittling anyone or anything.

This was on in Brazil. Lots and lots of times.

So the bottom line is that this commercial was shown in several countries, but officially banned in Communist China and unofficially banned in the USA. At least China has an excuse - it’s an abhorrently repressive dictatorship. What’s the excuse here. Methinks there is a tad too much political correctness in the good old USA.
