Corinthians Get Some Good PR, Learn How To Celebrate & Andre Santos Has Snoop Dogg Bling
By: chris | July 3rd, 2009A couple weeks ago Corinthians were the shame of Brazil, desperate for some type of good news. Bad celebrations, fans killing rival fans, setting more things alight and on-pitch throw-downs with the youth team (with poor fighting technique at that) read like playing Corinthians is akin to playing in a conflict zone. How better for a sports club to turn that image around? Simple: just win, baby.
And that they have. Two competitions, two trophies (the other a state championship) for the recently-promoted monsters of Brazil after winning the Copa do Brasil yesterday against Internacional – and they even managed to celebrate without setting anyone on fire.
With this win, they enter the Copa Libertadores. The Brazilian championship still has a long way to go, they sit 7th, but regardless of the outcome, it’s been a successful season on the pitch for the Corinthians players, at least.
But none more successful than Andre Santos (unless you count Ronaldo moving swifter than honey dripping uphill), who made a name for himself at the Confederations Cup (just being on the Selecao teamsheet will do that) and being chased by half of Serie A. Andre’s month got just a bit better after assisting on the first and scoring the second of a 2-2 draw in the latter leg of the title home-and-away. This means a trophy on Sunday with Brazil and a trophy on Thursday with his club team. Second-rate trophies, but trophies nonetheless. The man clearly needs his own rap video.
On second thought, scratch that…for a club with a recent history of riots, fights and fires, that might not be such a wonderful idea.
