Crazy Goalkeepers, Crazy Good Saves

By: Bob | December 7th, 2006

It takes a certain type of person to willingly volunteer to stand in goal and let players rifle shots your way. Goalkeepers have a well deserved reputation for being a bit off their rocker and perhaps a mild case of insanity is what makes some keepers insanely good. The video below has a collection of wonderful saves, including the Colombian keeper Rene Hiquita’s famous scorpion kick at the :40 mark of the video. I’ve always thought that it would have been even more amazing if he missed it entirely and landed flat on his face.

Agreed. Plus, a “crazy goalkeepers” video that doesn’t feature Jens Lehmann jabbing his finger and screaming at some poor bastard who’s just gone down injured in front of his goal seems incomplete.
