Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Middlesbrough Fan’s Wrist (Hopefully Not Deliberately Though)

By: Daryl | April 15th, 2008

Fred HarissonEver wondered how hard Cristiano Ronaldo strikes a football? Well wonder no longer, because now we have an answer. It’s not in miles per hour, or km per hour, but it’s still a pretty accurate unit of measurement. Cristiano Ronaldo’s shots are officially hard enough to break a 68 year old man’s wrist.

C-Ron shoots2Middlesbrough fan Fred Harrison was at the Riverside for the Boro’ 2-2 Man Utd game on April 6th, when one of C-Ron’s efforts flew just over the bar and headed straight towards Harrison. “As it was coming I put my hands up to stop it hitting my face because I was thinking about my glasses,” he said.

The result was a broken right wrist, which is now encased a in a plaster cast decorated with footballs (pictured, who says the National Health Service has no sense of humour?)

Harisson has no hard feelings, saying “I definitely think he’s the best footballer in the world.” But the worrying thing is that given how deadly accurate Ronaldo has been with a football lately, it’s not impossible that he was actually aiming for Harrison.

Well, this is exactly the sort of thing I’ve come to expect from him. No respect at all. This old guy probably went to war for this ungrateful upstart and how does he repay him? By (probably) doing a few dozen step-overs, a Portuguese jig, a roly-poly and then callously breaking this man’s wrist. Thats how.

    Utterly appalled I am…

Next time: duck. Sure, the poor sucker behind you will probably get knocked unconscious, but at least you won’t have to leave the game to go to the hospital.

Also: drink some milk. I’ve been hit in every conceivable area of my body with soccer balls traveling at ridiculous speeds, and I never broke a bone.

It does remind me of the Man U-Arsenal game from last season, where Jens Lehmann blocked a Ronaldo shot with his face…no wonder he was laid out for a few minutes.

Ronaldo doesn’t have anything on Riise smashing a fan’s outstreched hand with a crunching “high-5″ in the return vs. Arsenal…
