Cristiano Ronaldo Scores, Strips, Attacks And Apologizes, All In One Day

By: Dave Martinez | December 6th, 2009

ronaldo_real_madridAll was well in the world of Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid was facing Almeria in what was sure to be a romp, and Ronaldo didn’t take long putting his stamp on the game with a gorgeous cross in the box to Sergio Ramos, who placed a perfect header into the back of the net.

But something went wrong on the way to this 4-2 victory. Almeria actually did the impossible and made a game out of it. And Ronaldo didn’t like it. Not one bit.

Tied 2-2, and heading into the 80th minute, CR9 did what CR9 does; making defenders look silly on a sprint to the goal. On his way there, keeper Diego Alves threw his body at the onrushing Portuguese striker, and got more Ronaldo than ball. The penalty that ensued produced the impossible; Ronaldo was stuffed like a teddy bear. Sure, Benzema did the clean up work, putting in the rebound for the go ahead, but Ronaldo, like the rest of the world, was stunned. So stunned, in fact, that he didn’t celebrate the crucial goal with the team.

Now, with 10 minutes left in the game, thoroughly disgusted with himself, and feeling he had something to prove, CR9 turned on the jets. Five minutes after his epic fail, he produced this little gem (daddy’s, cover your little daughters eyes please):

The shirtless wonder, doing his best impersonation of Bruce Banner, earned himself a yellow for the celebration. But there was a problem; the testosterone was still pumping, and had no where else to go. What to do? How about kick the ever loving hell out of Juanma Ortiz!

After being sent off, Ronaldo made a point of apologizing publicly for his actions:

“I’m human and I made a mistake. I have my flaws too, but I am a professional who doesn’t like to miss or lose. I was sad after missing the penalty and that’s why I didn’t celebrate the goal that followed. I am a perfectionist, but I’m glad Karim scored. I was sent off because I reacted instinctively. I wish to apologise for that.”

Translation: I can’t believe I missed that friggin’ shot! This is unacceptable! Someone needed to pay! Especially a guy with a funny name like Juanma!!! You don’t like it?! Your calf will be next!!!

Ah, to be invincible . . . .

When ronaldo does stuff like that, he's an asshole

When jordan did similar stuff on a basketball court, he was 'driven'

When ronaldo cries after missing a penalty in cl final its tears of a crybaby

When j terry cries 10mins later, the tears are of 'a real man'

Give the guy a break. He took over a game! In crunchtime. A game played by 22 men, he controlled for the most important 10mins. He made a goal (pen) then scored one. All in 5mins! How good is that?

And all the rage because of a missed/saved penalty. How driven is he?

Its jordan-like for me. He found a way to get him going, took the game over, made sure his team would win, and then overreacted slightly. But why condemn the guy?

All of you would pact with the devil to be able to do what he's done in that game. Just like all of you would do the same for being jordan in crunchtime of an nba final game.

Ronaldo made a point of proving he was good and so did jordan.

So why is jordan the ultimate athlete and ronaldo a crybaby?

Not sure its sent (on bberry)

  • Brooks at Dirty Tackle also sums it up well:

First of all, kicking someone as hard as you can in the calf is not instinctive. Secondly, starting off an apology with “I’m human” and “I have my flaws” automatically nullifies it because you’re trying to gain sympathy for yourself. Thirdly, you’re a douche. Either own it completely or stop being a douche.

  • I think Roberts statement may have well made my entire case in this post.

It's simple he is an a**hole.

CR's goal is just so pedestrian and hardly worth a "LOOK AT ME" jersey doffing. I do understand that a truly great goal, destined for the highlight reel, might inspire one to flaunt a shapely bare chest and take the yellow card. CR must be, in general, awfully desperate for attention given how boring and simple of a tap-in this goal was.

I am sympathetic to players to the point of being annoying in defense of many, but I haven't yet found a way to stomach C. Ronaldo's attitude and behavior combo. I can't enjoy his game, no matter how good it is.

Reacted instinctively?!? It took him five minutes to get the shirt off. I hate that yellow card rule and think players should be free to take off whatever they want (just saying...), but he drew the yellow and looked wholly conscious in the process.

awww c'mon, Ronaldo clearly dived for the penalty. he was on the ground way before poor alves even touched him.
  • Drabik
To call Ronaldo over-rated is a bit silly really. Without him, would Manchester United have won the league 3 seasons in a row? Would they have got the Champions League final two seasons in a row? The answer is probably no (although I would like United to prove me wrong by winning both this season).

Call him what you want, but he isn't over-rated. Its not like all his goals are the same. Its not like he doesnt add other things to the game - see assist in video.

He is a tremendous athlete - tall, fast, strong, quick thinking with a powerful shot and a good head on his shoulders.

I will never understand how anyone likes this guy... even as a player so overrated. then throw in all of the other negatives...
  • It always entertains me no end when somebody gets a yellow for removing his shirt, then gets ejected for a later infraction. What kind of combination of arrogance/stupidity does this take?

Oh, wait. forgot who we were talking about. ;-)

"I was sad, so I pouted. Come on, isn't this what everybody does?"
