Cristiano Ronaldo Wins at Facebook

Cristiano Ronaldo is apparently the most popular athlete on Facebook. Not just the most popular footballer (though of course he’s that too) but the most popular athlete. When Marca published this story earlier today, CR97 had 9,793,408 fans of his official Facebook page. He now has well over 10 million, apparently making him the first non-US celebrity to pass that milestone.

According to Famecount (which I’m 99% sure is where Marca got their numbers from) Ronaldo has roughly double the number of fans than his nearest rival Leo Messi, who has about 4.5 million fans. You can of course visit Messi’s Facebook page and give him the digital thumbs up, if you want to help Leo catch C-Ron.

The top 20 contains plenty of other footballers, like #6 David Beckham with 3.5 million fans, #12 Fernando Torres with 2.3 million, #14 Kaka with 1.9 million, #15 Andres Iniesta with 1.6 million, #18 Zinedine Zidane (still popular four years after retiring) with 1.3m and Ronaldinho propping up the top 20 with 1.2 million fans.
