Cuauhtemoc Blanco is a Bad, Bad Boy

VIDEO HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM YOUTUBE BY CENSORS.

Rumors all over the place today about Chicago bad boy/Designated Player Cuauhtemoc Blanco assaulting one or more players on then field, and then headbutting a DC United employee. And from what I can tell, at least some of these rumors appear to be true

In this earlier post, I described Blanco and DC player Marc Burch being sent off in the US Open Cup game between DC United and the Chicago Fire. The video above, at the end, appears to show Blanco delivering a hard punch to the gut of DC Player Clyde Simms. (It doesn’t show the retaliation by Marc Burch, but shows Blanco on the ground afterwards.)

After that we start getting into rumors and BigSoccer posts, but several people are saying they then witnessed Blanco deliver a headbutt into the face of a DC official who was trying to get Blanco to leave the sidelines after getting sent off. You can read these accounts at MLS Rumors.

Keep in mind that we’re all innocent until proven guilty, but this isn’t looking good for Blanco. The punch alone could be grounds for some serious action, either MLS-related or legal.

From Steven Goff at the Washington Post:

In addition to his on-field conduct, which according to D.C. United defender Marc Burch included both punching and eye-gouging D.C. midfielder Clyde Simms, Blanco also allegedly head-butted a D.C. United operations employee as he was being escorted off the field, according to sources.

Here is D.C. United’s comment on the situation: “As a result of incidents last night, Major League Soccer has requested video footage, which we are preparing and will be sending to the league,” United spokesman Doug Hicks said. Hicks said MLS will have the video today.

What do you think? Will MLS act against Star DP #2? Or does his standing as a seat-filler and star make him untouchable?

Do people know that there are other ways of showing video besides YouTube? I'm so old school that I can even remember when people posted video on their own web sites without using YouTube at all! Crazy I know.
  • true dat. Lets see, I recall Mastro getting the beat down, also, beasley getting his hands knocked down, that honduran gay dude that was blowing kisses to Cuauh, got the beat down. Who can forget the Copa Lib Sao Caetano incident, where Cuauh brought all of Azteca on top of them.

ph3@r the legend that is Cuauh.
  • Because hell yeah. All players beating the Fire shall henceforth get their eyes gouged out.
  • When will people learn not to mess with Cuauh?

"If that isn't a suspendible offense, I'm not sure what is."

If there's justice, Blanco will be suspended for a period of time. People who were at the game (as well as Burch) said Blanco went after Clyde Simms' eyes and you can see the punch. He also headbutted a DC Staff member, and allegedly assaulted a police officer. If that isn't a suspendible offense, I'm not sure what is.
  • GRRRR. What MLS doesn't want you to see, you won't see, I guess?
