Danny Rose: The Art Of Impossibly High Standards

Tottenham are really setting some lofty, nigh unachievable standards for themselves when it comes to the North London derby. For the second straight year, an absolute wondergoal from Spurs opened proceedings early in the first half; this time, however, they would win, and do so at home. And unlike David Bentley’s dip from distance, this one didn’t come with quite the hype of a £15m former Gunner signing: it was 19 yo Premiership debutant Danny Rose, whose career is likely to have peaked at all of 9 minutes old. It was something reminiscent of Alberto Paloschi’s 18 second debut for Milan a couple years back, but with a goal that stands alone of his minutes played column – the ball’s still crying stitches in the back of the net.

Danny then went off with a “knee knock” at the half, presumably a genius bid by Harry Redknapp to keep the hype machine firmly on “reasonably insane”. It won’t work.

(Much better version after the jump, but it’s likely to be snatched by the time this sentence is done.)

Better yet it was a fantastic punch from Almunia, it was simply a bill hit with nothing less than absolute perfection.
