David Navarro will have plenty of time to learn how to fight

david-navarro.jpgWhen last we saw Valencia’s David Navarro he was running for his life as the Keystone Kops from Inter Milan tried to catch him and punish him for breaking Nicolas Burdisso’s nose in a brawl at the end of their Champions League match. That might be the last we see of Navarro on a football pitch for some time. UEFA has announced that they are suspending him for seven months, which means that the little used player will have to do what he normally does during Champions League matches: sit on the bench.

UEFA does deserve some credit for handing out a stiff penalty and for asking FIFA to make it stiffer. They want that seven-month ban to apply to all matches, meaning Navarro will not be able to play in Valencia’s La Liga matches nor will he be able to reunite with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Suspending a player for seven months might seem harsh but if UEFA really wanted to punish the guy they would put him on a pitch surrounded by a steel cage and let the Inter Milan players go after him. Figure after about 90 minutes at least one punch would hit him.

You're right, Bob! If they just let him sit on the bench, he can get up and punch someone else too!

A cage would be a better (although harsher) bet.

They should make him watch the video of him running like a scared child repeatedly for 7 months.
