First, congrats!!! Very happy for you guys and, yes, a great trophy to win.

There wasn’t any confusion in my house re the stomp. It was pretty clear that it was his hand that Montero was holding against his chest, that it was intentional (Wicks knew the ball was in already so there was no reason to jump over a player at all to get back to goal), and whether or not a player is considered a diver does not mean its okay to have his hand stomped on.

I think Wicks’ morning after response was the right one.

Jeremy, I believe that the normal reaction of anybody who gets a hand stomped by a 200-lb guy in cleats would be to pull the hand in close to the body/chest. Hence the confusion.

And Wicks isn’t exactly trying to claim that he’s innocent.

@ Jeremy – Montero is regarded as the worst diver in the league. Not saying what Wicks did is defensible, just saying that Montero is a repeated and regular blatant cheater.

guess i have not seen a good angle, but I thought he jumped over him and that he didnt land on his chest. The player made it seem like he stomped his chest by the reaction. Its wrong what Wicks did if he intentionally landed on his hand, but these injury embellishments are bad for the game even if it may not apply in this case after I see a better angle.

I hope we’ll see the results of that because he is a very good keeper. Sometimes people make stupid stupid mistakes, the important thing is that they learn from them.

He should’ve show’d his underwears more, that would’ve kept him busy.

Seriously, it was obvious he stomped on SOMETHING, just hard to see what. And like I said, there are other camera angles that make it much clearer.

Wicks has a reputation as a thug, so the referees were probably watching for something like this.

Wicks stomped on Montero’s hand, not his chest. This is what is causing the confusion. Watch the video for the location of Montero’s hand during the infraction and then watch his reaction. He wasn’t faking.
