Dear Chivas USA, please give my boyfriend a job
By: Bob | October 2nd, 2007
While some WAGs are keeping busy by saying things like, “I’m a maid in the bedroom. I never get any complaints!’, others are more concerned with more pressing matters like trying to petition their boyfriend onto a professional soccer team.
After spending a season with Chivas USA’s development squad, Michael Munoz injured his ankle and ended up playing for the USL First Division California Victory this season. Those five months of living 400 miles away from home were five months too long for his girlfriend Patty Rodriguez. Forced with the prospect of another season of long distance romance (man, that ride from San Fran to LA is boring), she did what any right minded WAG would do. She started a petition to earn her man a spot on the Chivas USA roster.
And her boyfriend is cool with it.
“When I heard what Patty was doing I could barely believe it,” he said. “I mean, who does petitions for soccer?
“I am sure some people will have heard about the petition and have some fun with it,” he said. “But it’s cool. It is totally her thing and I told her that if she wanted to do it, then I didn’t have a problem with it. She doesn’t need to worry about embarrassing me.”
Wow, and you thought Beckham was whipped.
More than 1,000 people have signed the petition with the hope that they will help bring about a dream ending: Munoz sitting on the bench for Chivas USA, earning about $9.50 an hour.
