Dick Cheney look alike and former Togo boss lands in Sudan

pfisterotto.jpgYou’re a professional football manager with a resume that says you most recently coached Togo in the World Cup in between threats of not coaching Togo in the World Cup. You favor pink shirts and blue jeans. You like to smoke and perhaps you are a bit too fond of the drink. At the age of 68, you aren’t quite ready to go back to Germany and collect your pension. At the same time, no reasonable club or country will hire you and you can only find limited work as a Dick Cheney impersonator. Where do you turn?

To a war-torn country with an ongoing genocide, of course.

Sudan is the new home of Otto Pfister after he signed a one-year contract to coach El Merrikh, a team that as far as we can tell has never won the big prize in the domestic league.

Pfister is quoted as saying he is excited about the opportunity and who can blame him? A $15,000 a month salary will go a long way in a country where the average annual income is less than $2,000 and he should be quite comfortable in a place where mercenaries of all nature are welcomed. We only hope the Sudanese schools are prepared to deal with the Otto Pfister fashion craze.

I'm going to guess that they don't care much about smoking on the bench in Sudan. Anyone care to bet that he'll go to Somalia next?
