Dimitar Berbatov Finally Does it for ManYoo — Twice
By: Laurie | September 30th, 2008
The cost per goal figure for Manchester United’s new purchase Dimitar Berbatov is now a real number after he scored today in the Champions League in ManU’s 3-0 win over hapless Aalborg. And not just once, but twice. The above goal took him from zero to one — an opportunistic delivery in the 55th after Thomas Augustinussen (playing out of position) made a blunder.
But he was just getting warmed up with that one. In the 79th, he showed he intends to be the real deal with this gorgeous half-volley. (Wait. Did I hear somebody say “goalkeeper blunder”? Shh. Don’t spoil the moment.)
This game may not be the best measure of his prowess — I think the final stats showed Manchester United with something like 67% possession, and their shots were about double the number of Aalborg’s.
But at least now the transfer fee per goal is down to about £15m.
ManU fans are hoping it continues down from here.

wow, Man Yoo? The Offside resorting to stealing sub-par, cringeworthy Football365 jokes now eh?

We have been passionately debating Berbatov’s fantasy value now, but it is OBVIOUS his “Real life” value will propel Man U back into the top 2… sorry Pool/Gunner fans.

C’mon, smith, everybody knows we’re way too flippin’ lazy to type out “Manchester United” every single time. And ManYoo is a whole lot better than some of the sobriquets that others have come up with.

So you’ve got time to type sobriquets but not Manchester United, or even Man. United? But I suppose you did already say you were lazy, so there you go.

Nobobomo: Damn straight! You got it figured out!
Truly, though, what I find interesting is how many people see bias in our bloggers where none exists. I don’t think any of us on The Offside’s main page have Premier League favorite team, or a team on our s***list, but we’ve all been accused of it. My first true love is French football, so I tend to love all of the teams that have French players. Evra’s at ManYoo — oh, wait, excuse me! Manchester United — and he’s one of my favorite players, so I can cheerfully root for them against teams with no French players, like Liverpool. But when MU plays Arsenal, Arsenal wins out. (Clichy! Sagna! Gallas! Arsene, even.) Jury’s still out on Manchester United vs. Chelsea. I was a genuine neutral in last year’s Champions League final.
Don’t be so quick to take offense, gents. I neither love nor hate your team.
