Don’t Touch The Hair
By: chris | August 10th, 2009Mere hours after Jens Lehmann alerted us to his presence on the global footballing scene once again, it would appear that he has a protege learning his trade in the Swiss Super League. Basel’s Argentinian keeper Franco Costanzo, who is, yes, everything Frank Costanza wishes he could be with the cooler name to boot, got angry about something. That something would probably have to do with fierce rivals Zurich put one into Franco’s net despite being down to ten men in the 87th when the goal scorer was being marked on the cross by the ghost of Christmas past (3:30).
Basel got it back in splendid fashion for a derby draw, but that wasn’t enough. The skirmish with Beg Ferati took place after the final whistle, which would lead one to believe Franco was upset with the result and thus still with the marking on that lone goal, which resulted in yelling which then escalated. So he tousled Beg’s hair quite vigorously and, in something you won’t see very often, two teammates are separated by rivals at a derby. Who’d've thunk it?
Basel have chosen an excellently appropriate route of punishment:
Basel ordered the 28-year-old Costanzo – who could still be suspended by the Swiss league – to pay an undisclosed amount toward a program that promotes responsible fan behaviour.
Also enjoyable in this video clip is the meltdown of Alex Frei, who manages two yellows within three seconds for exceedingly adult things, such as piggybacking and throwing balls.
