Drunken Ref Escorted Off The Field

Yeah, the summer is supposed to be the boring time when we’re subjected to ZOMG Frank Lamps is goin’ to Inter!!!!!…ZOMG he’s staying!!!!! headlines. But there is actually some football going on and though the quality is often below the desired levels, some of the fodder can be absolutely glorious.

Take, for example, today’s news that a drunken referee was ushered off the field during a league game in Belarus. Sergei Shmolik thought he had back pain while leaving the pitch, but it was actually just too much Smirnoff. A common mistake. Another common mistake drinking too much midday before wandering around children aimlessly.

Actually, sounds like a family party. Or that creepy guy outside the London elementary schools looking for “talent”. (Arsene or something?)

There's a referee in Edmonton called Drunk Danny: He's a hilarious old Scottish dude who never calls a foul and irritates coaches all the time. He's part of Canadian soccer folklore for sure. Just thought I'd share that.
  • And as an extra bonus, his family can use this video for the intervention!
  • Amazing video. Absolutely Classic.
