Dutch Finally Win a World Cup

Who needs Johan Cruyff or Marco van Basten when you have Andries Smit on your side! Who is Andries Smit? He is your 2006 FIFA Interactive World Cup champion. He is more popular today in the Netherlands than the guy selling the really choice wacky weed in Amsterdam’s Red Light district. Smit mashed the joystick buttons like no one else in the competition this weekend, sending the other 127 players home with nothing but calluses and bloodshot eyes to show for their efforts.
Playing as the always undermanned and untalented Brazil, Smit defeated some dude from Austria who played as Barcelona 6-4 in the tournament final. An American playing as France (how very unpatriotic) finished third by defeating a Norwegian who played as Chelsea in the always entertaining Third Place match.
After being congratulated on stage by FIFA delegate and FIFA Executive Committee member Chuck Blazer, an emotional and exhausted looking Andries was overcome by his success, “I’m so happy, I can’t stop shaking. This is great – the best moment of my life,” exclaimed the young champion.
Smit earned $20,000 for the victory and joins the ever growing list of people who can call themselves a 2006 World Cup champion.
