Dutch Referee Eric Braamhaar Celebrates a Goal

By: Bob | March 23rd, 2007

The goal in the video above seems simple enough. There is nothing spectacular about it. It was Ajax’s fifth goal in a 5-1 pasting of PSV Eindhoven last weekend. But if you look closely you will see why some PSV fans are troubled by it. After the ball does in the net the referee in the match Eric Braamhaar pumps his fist like he was the one who scored. It was a brief movement and not like some goal celebrations, but nevertheless it is unusual for a referee that isn’t this guy to display such excitement over a goal. Is Braamhaar an Ajax fan? Some people are suggesting it but for his part he says he was simply excited because he correctly allowed Ajax to play an advantage before the goal. Imagine if other referees start celebrating their good calls during games. We might see one, maybe two, referee celebations a week.

Referees celebrating their calls would be awesome. I can totally see the ref pulling his shirt up over his head and running around with his arms outstretched after giving a player a yellow card for diving in the box.

He “officiated” the Arsenal v Seville game last night, And was equally appalling. This clip shows a proffesional in an act which is tantamount to cheating - It seems bizzarre that in a global sport in today’s modern standards that peole like this still exist - i hope this is noted by uefa and Arsene Wenger reports this man
