The faces of FIFA 2008

By: Daryl | May 26th, 2007

Ronaldinho will be on FIFA 08 coverFootballers know they’ve hit the big time when their face adorns the cover of an EA Sports FIFA video game, and EA have just unveiled the selection of stars who’ll be lining up for FIFA ‘08. Ronaldinho will once again the centerpiece, so his recognizable grin will be on the packaging in every country. But the players accompanying him on the box will differ by region.

It will be Miroslave Klose in Germany, Tranquillo Barnetta in Switzerland, Sergio Ramos in Spain, Andreas Ivanschitz in Austria and a two way tie between Florent Malouda and Frank Ribery in France. Unfortunately there’s no keepy uppy contest to decide the winner, they’ll both be on there.

All the above players have been motion captured by EA Sports, so there is now a digital record of their movements and playing style that can be used in future versions of the game.

The UK and North America cover stars have yet to be announced. The smart money would be on Stevie Gerrard or Wayne Rooney for the UK version, while the American cover is up for grabs. Possibly Beckham – because he’ll be the big name as of July – but EA could still go with a North American player. To pick on someone at random though, Ned Grabavoy probably isn’t holding his breath.

FIFA 2008 will be released this fall/autumn, depending on where you live.

Cover boy just got a red for kicking a Getafe player down below. They’re up 1-0 but down a man.

He’s already on FIFA ‘07, so Kudos to him.

Who’s going to be on the cover in Italy and the rest of Europe?

yeah I’d like to see someone besides Ronaldinho on the cover. I like ronaldinho but he was there last year and I think his form as gone down recently.

I for one like Ned Grabavoy. Saw him play in college and he was head and shoulders above everyone else. However…he can play pretty small and slow sometimes in MLS.

For the North American cover…surely they won’t go with Landycakes will they? But who is an American playing in America that has enough juice these days?

The new face for the North America edition will be Guillermo Ochoa…he is the goal keeper for the Mexican National team and for America. Probably one of the best goal keepers in the world right now…if not now, he will be in the next year or so. He is only 20 years old.

I think it’s about time we got An Australian on the cover – doesn’t that make sense? It is the cover for Australia after all.

I think Harry Kewell, Tim Cahill or Mark Viduka should be on it. Probably Harry Kewell, because he’s our best player we’ve ever produced. He might not be playing week in week out now, but when he wants to be, he can be the best in the world.
