Eddie Johnson has a Blinging Smile
By: Bob | September 26th, 2007
Most of the time when you read about the lifestyles of MLS players it involves 12 guys sharing a studio apartment subsisting on boxes of mac and cheese, one step away from sitting on a corner with a “will work for food” sign. Most of the dudes don’t make a lot of dough, which means they don’t get to partake in the excesses that have become a right for most professional athletes in the United States.
Eddie Johnson is not your typical MLS player. He turned down a gig in England and he is among the top paid players in the league, which means that instead of looking under his couch cushions for coins he has to be creative when it comes to how he invests his money.
Kansas City Wizards and U.S. national team striker Eddie Johnson stopped by his favorite jeweler a couple of weeks ago and bought a little bling.
Make that a lot of bling.
Johnson and the Wizards were in L.A. over the weekend to play Chivas USA, and a team spokesman said Johnson, 23, had splashed out $85,000 on a new watch, necklace and a jewel-encrusted mouthpiece, “like a retainer,” to add a few diamonds to the Johnson smile.
An MLS player spending his wad on a jewel-encrusted mouthpiece. Just another sign that the league is really starting to gain traction. It is only a matter of time before we start seeing some of those minimum wage players sporting cubic zirconium-encrusted mouthpieces.

I find it cruel and offensive that you have left us with this photo for approximately sixteen hours.
I, personally, would much prefer crotch grabs, gratuitous nudity, or other pointlessly tasteless soccer photos.
Please keep this in mind next time you abandon us for the night.
