The Fastest Hat-Tricks Ever Scored

What could you get done in 12 minutes? I could take a shower. I could make a cup of tea (and possibly drink it). I could maybe walk to my local shop and back.

What can Wolfsburg’s Bosnian striker Edin Džeko do in 12 minutes? He can score a Bundesliga hat-trick.

The game vs Hoffenheim was 0-0 until the 67th minute, when Džeko opened the scoring. By the 79th minute he had his trick, with Brazilian striker partner Grafite adding a fourth for good measure. The win keeps Wolfsburg three points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

Twelve minutes is fast, but there’ve been faster. According to my good friend Wikipedia, the fastest hat-trick in history belongs to Tommy Ross, who scored three for Ross County in 90 seconds back in 1964.

No YouTube footage of Ross’s achievement, but we do have some video of the man thought to have held the record until Tommy Ross stepped forward. This is Jimmy O’Connor completing his 1967 hat-trick in 2 minutes and 13 seconds for Shelbourne vs Bohemians in Ireland:

Bournemouth’s James Hayter came on as an 84th minute sub in 2004, and scored three within 140 seconds. But arguably the most famous hat-trick in English football belongs to Robbie Fowler, who scored a Premier League hat-trick for Liverpool vs Arsenal in 4 minutes and 33 seconds:

And last but not least, here’s something I found while searching YouTube for “fastest hat-trick”. Enjoy:
