Egyptian Ultras, From the Inside

Pitch Invasion, a football blog with a focus on international “supporter culture,” is running an occasional series examining the lives of ultras in unusual places. Only in its second installment, the series is well worth a read, and today’s post, from “A,” one of the founders of Egypt’s first ultras group, is fascinating.
A’s group call themselves Ultras Ahlawy, and they support Al-Ahly, probably the only Egyptian side of which anyone outside of Africa has ever heard. Despite the opposition of police and the refusal of the club to give them any support or assistance (something that clearly sets Egyptian football apart from most of Europe, where major supporters clubs are often very tightly tied to their clubs, for better or for worse), Ultras Ahlawy have done amazing things this season, particularly considering that they’re only six months old, and have at most 150 members in the stadium at any given moment.

maybe because ahly is dominatng doesn’t mean he is the only one….i would like to tell you that their city’s rivals zamalek are as powerful as them except that it is having troubles these years and they didn’t make club world cup at the time when they were 5 times african champions…zamalek have first ultras in egypt called ultras white nights and they have done far better than ultras ahlawy and i can show you if you are interested…..thanks
