Elton John Breaking Some Intertoto Hearts

By: Bob | April 18th, 2007

elton-john-watford.JPGLike a candle in the wind, the Scottish club Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s hopes of playing in Europe next season have faded. Former Watford chairman, friend of George Best and full-time Rocket Man Elton John is set to play a concert at the club’s Caledonian Stadium on July 15, a date that happens to be when the second round of the Intertoto Cup will be played.

No big deal, right? Cancel the concert so that they can square off against a team from somewhere like Moldova for the right to play against a team from somewhere like San Marino. Think again.

And director of football Graeme Bennett said: “We’re withdrawing our interest in the Intertoto Cup.

“The cup dates clash with an Elton John concert at the stadium, which would’ve been a big issue.

Hell knows no fury as an Elton John fan denied his God given right to hear Crocodile Rock, and Bennie and the Jets performed for the seven millionth time!

Don't worry Elton's into Toto, and dressing up like Judy Garland and other weird characters from the Wizard of Oz.

It's too bad - the Intertoto Cup would be a good chance for Caley Thistle to get some European experience, but it's not a big loss considering the club's recent form. We should be concentrating more on getting into the top half of the SPL, and challenging for the Scottish Cup and UEFA Cup qualifying, than worrying about this.
