English FA: Drop your shorts goal celebration is acceptable
By: Bob | November 6th, 2007
It is hard for a goalscorer to sometimes know what to do when he scores a goal. It used to be ok to take off your shirt and wave it around. Now it is not. It used to be ok to reach deep into your shorts and whip out a Mexican wrestling mask. Now it is not. It used to be illegal to drop your shorts. Now it is legal! At least if you are Manchester City’s Stephen Ireland whose Superman underwear striptease against Sunderland has gotten the ok the English FA because, in part, they are sympathetic to the fact that Ireland is a nut job. No word yet if they’ll also allow a Full Monty celebration, but from the looks of things Ireland’s teammate can’t wait to find out.

He’s a goof. Send him to the MLS. We need crap like that here.

Its somewhat amazing that he is so attention starved after the dead granny debacle. I would think he would be trying to avoid attention for non-football related matters–and I can’t see how dropping your shorts can qualify as football related.

I wholeheartedly believe that we should celebrate and encourage this kind of creativity in goal celebrations.
As long as they’re not wearing, y’know, thongs or anything.

The ‘pants’ celebration was used to deflect attention from his hair transplant!
