Eredivise Goals of the Season & The Poor Man’s Messi.
By: chris | May 13th, 2009Strictly by percentages, the Eredivisie must have some top class goals. What with their defenses resembling Haarlem’s leaky dike and the uber-technical Dutch taking part. So the goals of the season are, predictably, quite good.
But let’s talk Andreas Granqvist – he the guy zig-zagging through the labyrinth of defenders. You’d expect that out of a skillful winger, not a physically uncompromising centerback. And you’d expect it to be a once-in-a-lifetime happening. You’d be wrong again, because he did it again this past weekend to put a nice little cap on the season for Gronigen.
Not exactly the mazy run against world class defenders of a Messi or Maradona – and you can see the criticisms of Eredivisie defending (or lack thereof) – but the man’s a centerback for the love of Buddha. And he’s Swedish.
So he’s at least the poor man’s Messi – maybe the homeless man’s Maradona if he’s lucky. Plus he led a Gronigen defense which shockingly saw them at the top of the table at one point and conceded a minuscule 36 goals. Eat your heart out, Leo.

Seriously shit defending. He only beats one player who actually stands in front of him, everyone else just watches him go. Well finished though.
