Eric Addo Banned Four Games for Spitting on Opponent
By: Bob | October 26th, 2007According to the person who posted the above YouTube video, “Eric Addo is a Fucker”. The UEFA discipline folks evidently agree. The PSV player has been banned from his club’s next four Champions League matches for giving Fenerbahce’s Semih Senturk a phlegm shower. Said the UEFA folks: “Spitting at an opponent has always been considered as an act of assault by the UEFA disciplinary bodies, who did not accept that Addo was provoked by the Fenerbahce player.”
Make no mistake about it. Spitting is a cowardly act that deserves punishment. It might be degrading to your opponent, but if you really want to pay him back for something he did slug him in the balls or give him a headbutt or do what Senturk did in the video, elbow your opponent in the neck.
A four-game ban for spitting, a three-game ban for Zidane’s headbutt and none for elbowing a dude to provoke the spitting? Eric Addo might be a fucker but it seems to me that he is receiving a punishment that doesn’t fit the crime.

UEFA needs to be consistent…they banned Francesco Totti for 4 games at Euro 2004 for spitting on Christian Poulsen so they needed to do the same for Addo. With that in mind, suspensions for the players who provoked the spitting would be a good idea.

How many games for executing a DDT on an opponent? my guess is it doesn’t even make the back page.

The ban is fine, but I agree with Bob, the guy who elbowed Addo needs to be punished too.
