Euro 2008 Qualifiers to be Broadcast on the Internet

By: Bob | December 18th, 2006

online-football.jpgTis’ a glorious time to be a football fan of countries such as Lichtenstein, Faeroe Islands and my much beloved Snow Leopards of Kazakhstan. Thanks to a new broadcast agreement between Sportfive GmbH and Canadian-based Webcaster JumpTV Inc. you will be able to tune into the Internet to watch more than 150 European championship qualifying matches starting on March 24, 2007. The price for watching matches like the highly anticipated one between the Faeroe Islands and Ukraine hasn’t been announced yet, but if you are like me you’ll be willing to pay just about anything to see Kazakhstan play.

In all seriousness, this is an outstanding development and one that I hope other competitions and football leagues around the world will follow. While there will always be the blessedly free Chinese Pirates sites to fill the broadcasting hole in our hearts, anyone who has used these sites knows that they are often unreliable and that they can get bogged down by too much traffic.

Having a reliable online broadcast service available to fans in countries that don’t carry the matches on the telly will only help the sport to develop and will only help to boost interest in Euro 2008.

I don’t think he is squinting but he is grimacing while he watches Andorra play Gibraltar. The Internets is a wonderful thing.

Of course, it will always boil down to quality and subscription rates.

How much will it cost? Can I get a package with JUST my favorite team(s)?

    Interesting, though.

This is the way ALL television is going.

You have No Idea how happy this makes me. I love my footy pirates because they fill a need, but it will be nice to have something a little more reliable.

Don’t get too excited, there’s going to be at least 57 catches.
