Evidently Steve Irwin wasn’t Available
By: Bob | September 19th, 2006
We had to chuckle a bit when we read that Australia Prime Minister John Howard has appointed Liverpool’s Harry Kewell as “ambassador to promote healthy living.” The choice of the oft-injured Kewell is akin to Tony Blair appointing Wayne Rooney as an ambassador for conflict resolution.
Kewell is currently in Australia because of the fact that he is not healthy. Far from it in fact.
Kewell, who turns 28 on Friday, faces the prospect of surgery to fix his Achilles tendon, big toe and groin, Sydney’s Sunday Telegraph newspaper said.
Hey, at least he doesn’t have a torn bowel. At least not today, that is.
In his role as ambassador to promote healthy living, Kewell is expected to help tackle Australia’s growing obesity problem. How anyone is expected to help Mark Viduka slim down is beyond us, but if there is one man who knows the health care system well in Australia it is probably Harry Kewell.
