Evo Morales Uses Bolivian Presidency to Lauch Football Career

By: Daryl | March 28th, 2008

One of the great things about being President of Bolivia is that you get to play a lot of football. Just ask Evo Morales. Seems like every other week Il Presidente is taking part in some sort of exhibition game, like the recent high altitude friendly involving Diego Maradona (above.)

Now Morales has gone one step further and signed for La Paz-based amateur Bolivian second division side Litoral. He’s only a reserve player, and at 47 years old I think it’s safe to say Morales is well past his prime. Still, having the President of the country on your books can’t hurt, right?

There’s probably an excellent joke in there somewhere about Morales’ position being left wing, but I’m not going to make it. Though this does open up one tantalizing possibility: All we need now is for George Bush to join one of Litoral’s rivals and play right back, and then the two men can settle their differences on the football pitch.
