Fabio Cannavaro might be the next to jump from Real Madrid’s ship
By: Bob | March 26th, 2007
First there was David Beckham leaving for the LA Galaxy. Then there was Ronaldo heading to AC Milan. After that there was Roberto Carlos moving to parts unknown at the end of the season. And now there is word that Fabio Cannavaro could be the next high priced star to clean out his Real Madrid desk.
The reigning FIFA World Player of the Year has revealed that he is keen to return to Italy and his destination of choice is none other than his hometown club, Napoli, a team currently residing in second place in Serie B. All those stars on Juventus have sure made Serie B sexy again.
It isn’t especially surprising to me that Cannavaro would want to leave Real Madrid. He hasn’t fit in especially well with the Spanish giants and it is clear that the club is moving in a direction that doesn’t include aging superstars.
If they land Cannavaro next season and if their fans win the lottery, Napoli might be worth keeping an eye on next season.

Who wouldn’t like seeing him in Napoli. And it would be a great place to end his career.

As much as I would love for him to go to a promoted Napoli next year, both the Italian and Spanish press are taking this quote out of context. In an interview, Cannavaro was asked if he will go back to Napoli next season and he replied: “Well, I’ve got a contract in Spain. I’ve talked to Marino several times and he knows it.”
That was twisted into: “I have talked to Marino, Napoli’s chief operating officer, and he knows how I feel now.”
But thanks for the picture.
