Fabio Capello Mulls MLS Move. But to which team?
By: Bob | July 16th, 2007
Now that his onetime Real Madrid midfielder is in the United States figuring out where to find some decent fish and chips in southern California, Fabio Capello has indicated that he is mulling an offer to bring his boring, yet effective managerial skills to an unnamed team in MLS.
Capello probably wouldn’t have an introductory press conference replete with confetti and Spice Girls, but that doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t save American soccer from whatever it needs to be saved from.
“They have contacted me from the United States, however I must think about it,” Capello told Monday’s Gazzetta Dello Sport without naming the U.S. team.
“It would be a new experience that would intrigue me not for the money but to see if anyone could make American soccer take off.”
If anyone could do make things take off it would have to be a coach who was sacked from Real Madrid because his style of play was deemed too boring.
Putting that notion aside, which MLS team do you think has made him an offer? The LA Galaxy? Doubtful considering the relationship he had with Beckham. Chicago Fire? Nope, they have a new coach. Red Bull New York? They wouldn’t fire Bruce Arena after just a half a season, would they? Real Salt Lake? Maybe they could trick Capello into thinking they are like Real Madrid, but they too have a new coach this season. Columbus Crew, Kansas City Wizards, FC Dallas, et al? Do any of these teams have the money to spend on a coach of Capello’s stature?
What do you think? He is just bullshitting us or is there an MLS club that needs a new coach and that is willing to write a big check?
