Fan for a Match: Luch Energiya
By: Bob | September 14th, 2006Desperate times call for desperate measures. The past three weeks we have seen of Fan for a Match selections crash and burn. We’re very used to our own team losing, but to adopt another team and come up on the losing side week in and week out is almost too much for us to handle. Where do desperate people turn for salvation?
The Russian Far East, of course. Thanks to the suggestion of Blog reader Titan, we have decided to end our losing ways by fully supporting Luch Energiya, an up and coming team located in the spy novel city of Vladivostok. Luch Energiya was promoted to Russia’s Premier League this year and have acquitted themselves fairly well. Currently, the team resides in tenth place in the 16-team league and we have a feeling they will be moving up even higher in the table after taking out those lowlifes from FC Moscow on Saturday.
In addition to having a relatively rich history in Russian football, Luch Energiya also has the advantage of being located far, far away from most of the teams in its league. FC Moscow, for example, faces a 10-hour flight just to play them. Have you ever flown ten hours on a Russian airline? Seriously, it will take about six years off your life.
Of course, the club also suffers when they have to play away matches, but none of that really matters to us since we are only supporting them for a week. They’re at home, they have a goalkeeper from Georgia and they are going to win. If not, we might just go into self-imposed exile in Siberia and drink ourselves silly for forty years.
