Fan for a Match: The Winning Streak is Over at One
By: Bob | August 28th, 2006
We knew it was going to be an uphill battle when we selected NAC Breda as our Fan for a Match team. They were coming off of a humiliating 8-1 loss. They were playing a talented Ajax side that was grumpy. They weren’t very talented. Still, we thought that our collective support could will them to victory. We were wrong.
Ajax defeated our lads 2-1 on Sunday. The most disappointed aspect of all of this – besides our not so hot 1-2-1 Fan for a Match record – is that NAC Breda was up a goal in the second half at home and still lost.
Dutch international Wesley Sneijder is the object of our scorn this weekend. He scored a double to keep Ajax undefeated in league play and to stop our winning streak at one match.
The beauty of Fan for the Match is that we have no loyalty so we will never, ever have to root for NAC Breda again. We will, however, throw our weight behind another team on Thursday. If you have a team that needs support or you simply want your squad to get its moment in the sun on this site, send your Fan for a Match nomination to bob [at] theoffside.com. We obviously can’t guarantee victory, but we can assure you that your side won’t lose by more than 20 goals.
