Fans in Vietnam Offer Kidneys for Coach

r1570027797.jpgWe read quite a bit about fans around the world that are displeased with their team’s coach and want nothing more than to see him fired. That is why it is a refreshing change to come across a story about fans that are so concerned for their coach’s future that they have offered to donate their kidneys to keep him alive and in his current job.

Vietnam national team coach Alfred Riedl is in urgent need of a kidney transplant. Riedl, an Austrian who has coached Vietnam off and on since 1998, has received more than 40 offers from fans willing to donate their kidneys so he doesn’t have to miss any further time away from work.

“The donors are all big fans and they’re doing this for the good of Vietnamese football,” Riedl said. “They want to help me so I can be fit to help Vietnam win something. Their response was quite unexpected.”

So far, none of the donors have been a suitable match, but Riedl remains hopeful that a match will be made soon. He is not alone in hoping that will be the case.

Cool story. Hope it works out for him. Can I donate a brain to Sven Goran Erikson?
