Fatal Riots In Honduras

By: chris | July 27th, 2009

This is the incredible spillage, recorded from within the riot itself, from a match between Montagua and Olimpia of Honduras – a country not quite known for making international headlines with its club teams. The riots began in the stadium between the fans of both teams, then vacuumed in the police which were attempting to quell the madness and finally overflowed onto the streets, where we get what looks like video from a nightly news expose on war.

By the numbers (currently): 2 dead, 6 shot, 16 injured. Both who perished did so via gunshot, with one a 12 year old boy.

Honduras has been a tense place of late after the was-it-or-wasn’t-it coup late last month, ousting the president. They’re saying this was independent of political current events, but strife is strife and tension is tension. Both affect plenty of things which aren’t readily evident to the naked eye.
