Forget Robinho & Berbatov, Debutant Diego Milito Outshines Both.

By: chris | September 14th, 2008

For my money, Diego Milito is the single biggest steal of the 2008 summer transfer window. He’s a 15-20+ goal a season striker whose ability to provide the teamwork of a target man is so underappreciated, and yet Genoa got him for the measly sum of €8m. Well today he made his second rossoblu debut against the preseason scudetto favorites of many, Milan (that’s not going well), and boy did he shine. The video above shows his absolutely gorgeous layoff to Giuseppe Sculli for the first Genoa goal, then hammered home the second from the spot to take a 2-0 victory at home against Milan, who with all their giant, gilded summer signings, are now in crisis mode. Again. Proving once more…it’s about the smart buys, not the big ones.

What can you say about him? The stats don’t lie. I was hopping to see him in the Premiership. I’m sure teams like Everton or Wigan could have benefited a lot from him.
