Four Premiership Clubs Would Rather go to Court than the Championship

By: Daryl | May 5th, 2007

TevesceranoWe knew the Premiership survival fight would be tight, but we didn’t think it would go into the post-season. Four relegation threatened clubs: Sheffield United, Wigan, Charlton and Fulham are considering legal action over the Premiership’s decision not to dock West Ham points.

“You should understand we are separately in the process of obtaining legal advice arising out of the terms of the decision,” read a vaguely threatening statement from the four clubs addressed to the Premier League.

Their argument will be that since West Ham’s signing of Tevez and Mascherano was officially dodgy (which we knew all along) the correct course of action was for the Premiership to dock the Hammers some points, thus sentencing them to (oh the horror!) Championship football next season and opening up another survival spot for one of the four now lawyer friendly clubs.

I can understand the relegation threatened clubs wanting to do everything possible to cling onto the Premiership gravy train for one more season, but wouldn’t it be more productive to just make like West Ham and start winning some football matches? Because that’s the real problem. West Ham are suddenly the form team in the Premiership basement, with a certain neck-scar sporting Argentine striker now properly registered and leading the charge.

It’s as if the four clubs have all given up already and are getting their excuses ready, even though it’s mathematically impossible for all four of them to go down. Not exactly the best rallying call for a relegation dogfight is it?

Isn’t it ironic that Fulham basically cheated their way out of relegation against Liverpool today?

It would be a shame if it is decided in the courtroom and not on the field even if West Ham are a bunch of cheats.
